North Sydney Junior Cricket is giving girls in and around Cremorne a chance to discover cricket this coming Saturday, with a free Come and Try afternoon at Primrose Park — right in the heart of the local community.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, 29 August 2026, from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm, at the Primrose Park cricket nets on Matora Lane, off Young Street, Cremorne. It is open to girls aged 6 to 12 who are new to the sport or have had very little experience with bat and ball. There is no cost to attend and no prior skill required — just a willingness to give it a go.
Primrose Park is one of North Sydney’s premier sportsgrounds, offering cricket facilities alongside football, hockey and tennis, and is popular with local residents and visitors alike. The cricket nets there, which were completed in May 2018 following a Council resolution to provide additional cricket practice facilities for shared club and community use, make for a well-equipped setting for an afternoon of introductory cricket.
The afternoon will include team activities and a mini game, giving participants the chance to pull on a helmet, gloves and pads, pick up a bat, and see what cricket is all about in a relaxed, all-girls environment.
The club is hoping the event will feed into new beginner girls teams it plans to enter this season, with Round 1 expected to get underway on Saturday, 19 September. All teams train together at Bon Andrews — North Sydney Oval No. 2 — on Wednesday afternoons from 4 pm.
Girls’ cricket has been on a strong growth trajectory across the North Shore region in recent years. The North Shore junior district has seen the number of girls’ teams grow significantly, with local participation figures rising notably from the 2015–16 season onward.
