Cremorne residents are being invited to roll up their sleeves and help give local bushland a boost this National Tree Day, with a community planting session planned for Brightmore Reserve on Sunday, 26 July.
The event is part of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day, Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care initiative. Since it began in 1996, the program has involved more than 5 million volunteers across Australia, helping plant trees, restore habitat and care for local green spaces.
Here in Cremorne, the focus will be on expanding and protecting the bushland adjoining Brightmore Reserve. Volunteers will help create future habitat for native wildlife and threatened species by taking part in the planting.
A family-friendly way to help local bushland
North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said the day was an opportunity for families to connect with nature while contributing to the regeneration of local bushland.
“National Tree Day is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature, contribute to the regeneration of our local bushland, and create lasting memories,” Mayor Baker said.
“It’s a great first step into environmental volunteering for children – families can return year after year to see the trees they planted grow alongside their children.”
The community planting also offers residents a practical way to contribute to the Cremorne area.
Everything provided on the day
Tools, plants and guidance will be provided on the day. After the planting, volunteers can enjoy a free sausage sizzle as a thank-you for their efforts.
Planet Ark describes National Tree Day as more than a single date on the calendar, but a nationwide movement encouraging Australians to get their hands dirty, connect with nature and make a positive difference in their communities.
Cremorne locals keen to take part are encouraged to register through the National Tree Day website before the event.
