A major water main rupture in Cremorne this morning left thousands of local residents without water and caused damage to several properties in the area.
The burst occurred on Grasmere Road near Primrose Park, with Sydney Water crews called to the scene to repair the ruptured main that damaged both the footpath and sections of the road itself.
According to Sydney Water, approximately 19,200 homes across Cremorne, Neutral Bay and Mosman experienced little to no water supply following the incident. Residents who still had water running from their taps reported it was coming out brown.

The force of the burst caused significant flooding in the surrounding area, with water flowing down towards Primrose Park and eventually seeping into Sydney Harbour, leaving murky water visible in the waterway.
A Sydney Water spokesperson confirmed that several properties sustained damage as a result of the incident. The utility has assigned a customer advocate to work directly with affected residents.
“Crews have now isolated the main and restored pressure and supply to affected customers,” the spokesperson said. “If customers live in a unit block or similar with a private booster pump, their plumber may need to reset the system to restore supply to the building.”
Water supply has since been restored to the affected properties, though residents experiencing ongoing issues are being asked to contact Sydney Water on 13 20 90.
Road closures remain in place on Grasmere Road and Young Street as repair work continues. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area, and the bus stop on Grasmere Road is currently out of service.
Sydney Water has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked the community for their patience during the repairs.
